Maartje Fliervoet (NL)
An Unfathomable Apricot-Colored Space
@ Rokin 114a, next to Arti, Amsterdam
Opening: Thursday October 18, 19.00 – 22.00
Exhibition: October 19 – 21, 15.00 – 18.00
Maartje Fliervoet’s solo exhibition at agentur: in transit: will include two medium format slide installations with voiceovers, a series of photograms, and a novelette. Much of the exhibited work arose during Fliervoet’s stay in Xiamen, China. The feeling of disorientation created by that semi-futuristic urban setting formed an important point of departure for this presentation. By deconstructing and reconstructing photographs, Fliervoet avoids visual control during the production of her prints and slides. Instead, she aims at recreating a different space, a new composition that allows the viewer to perceive them in ways that leave room for the imagination.
Maartje Fliervoet studied visual art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (BA 1998), Cooper Union in New York (1997), and the Sandberg Institute (MA 2000). She currently studies Art History at the University of Amsterdam (MA). In May and June of this year, Fliervoet participated in the CEAC residency in Xiamen, China.
