Heidi Ganshaw (USA)
Artist in residence, Jan –Apr 2006
Installation Untitled Shop
Thu Apr 27 2006, 20.00 – 22.00
Heidi Ganshaw′s work is in a minimalist tradition, which focuses on the formal and material qualities of objects but resists the notion that this can only be pursued through abstract forms. With an economy of gesture Ganshaw rearranges or groups existing objects based on their formal, material, or functional characteristics accentuating their material or sensual qualities. The objects and ⁄or patterns remain what they are but through the rearrangement they come to carry or conjure external images or concepts. At agentur: incidental projects Heidi Ganshaw will present Untitled Shop works offering reflections on systems of categorization and questioning perceptions of materiality and function.
Ganshaw grew up in Boston and completed her MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art (Michigan, USA). After living in California for several years she came to Amsterdam for a residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (2004 –2005). She has exhibited in the United States (San Francisco, Chicago, Detroit), Finland and the Netherlands. She has been artist in residence at agentur: from January to April 2006.
