Elke Mark (D)
Es sitzt die Zeit im weissen Kleid
Performance and exhibition
Opening & Performance Thursday Jan 11, 19.30
Exhibition Jan12 till 14, 15 – 18
The German artist and performer Elke Mark has developed an exhibition that stems from a performance based on and related to the lyrics of the song Es sitzt die Zeit im weissen Kleid by Carl Maria von Webern, written in 1810. ("Es sitzt die Zeit im weissen Kleid / Und webt und singt und webt. / Sie sitzt am offenen Grab / Lächelnd rollen ihr Tränen herab.")
The set–up for the opening performance on Thursday January 11th will include a conveyor belt, a pile of sheets, projected color images and the action and movements of a woman′s body, referring to themes like liveliness, growth, nutrition, joy, sadness, life or death. These topics will be interwoven into moments of time rather than forming a linear narration during the performance. Fragments of the opening performance will be used as part of the exhibition from January 12 untill January 14 at agentur:.
"(...,) Elke Mark allows the conceptual to remain visible and play an important role in her work. Alongside the aesthetic appearance of the sculptures and the physical and emotional associations, mental pictures, thoughts and feelings they bring about, the absurd logic behind the process of their creation shines through. This seriousness of the absurd is like an emotional booby trap and at the same time it creates the feeling of distance we can well call ′humour′."
